The Blair Witch Project first terrified audiences back in 1999 (although a new film, simply titled Blair Witch, released in 2016). It’s unclear exactly where this new game fits in, although thanks to a new trailer, which you can check out further down this article, we know that it’s set in 1996, and “is a first-person, story-driven psychological horror game based on the cinematic lore of Blair Witch.”
The trailer opens to footage of a petrified man heading through a forest lit only by a flashlight while a hideous creature prowls the undergrowth nearby. The action then shifts dramatically, however, with a man in a car, listening to a news bulletin about a child who has gone missing in that same forest. In an attempt to find the missing boy, he sets out into the forest with his dog, but things seem to go awry very quickly, as his canine companion streaks off into the woods.
Beyond a lot of shaky first-person footage of a horrifying forest, there’s not a lot on offer, but that iconic final scene from the original movie has been recreated.

Details are pretty scarce beyond that, but we know that Blair Witch will be available later on August 30, which means you can freak yourself out later this summer.
