History[edit]

How to Install Crystal Report runtime. First of all, login in to your PC as Administrator and follow the below instructions. Choose the same version of crystal report runtime as of Crystal report for visual Studio and if your operating system is 32 bit or 64 bit, choose the version accordingly.

Terry Cunningham and the Cunningham Group originated the software in 1991.[2] Crystal Services Inc. marketed the product[3] (originally called 'Quik Reports') when they couldn't find a suitable commercial report writer for their accounting software.[citation needed] After producing versions 1.0 through 3.0, Crystal Services was acquired by Seagate Technology in 1994.[4] Crystal Services was combined with Holistic Systems to form the Information Management Group of Seagate Software, which later rebranded as Crystal Decisions and produced versions 4.0 through 9.0. Crystal Decisions was acquired in December 2003 by BusinessObjects, which produced versions 10, 11 (XI) and version 12 (2008).

SAP acquired BusinessObjects on October 8, 2007 and released Crystal Reports 2011 (version 14) on May 3, 2011. The latest version released is Crystal Reports 2016 (version 14.2.x) on March 8, 2016.

The file extension for Crystal Reports' proprietary file format is .rpt. The design file can be saved without data, or with data for later viewing or sharing. Introduced with the release of Crystal Reports 2011 (version 14.0), the read-only .rptr file extension option allows for viewing, but cannot be modified once exported.[5]

Several other applications, including Microsoft Visual Studio versions 2003 through 2008, and Borland Delphi, at one time bundled an OEM version of Crystal Reports as a general purpose reporting tool.[6] Microsoft discontinued this practice and later released their own competing reporting tool, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).[7][verification needed]

What is Seagate Crystal Reports?

Seagate Crystal Reports is an application centralized in business intelligence which is primarily used for generating and customizing reports using data sources. This application is designed and released by Seagate Software. The software was initially named Quick Report before it was able to break into the market.
Seagate Crystal Reports is regarded as a report writer which was bundled with the 2003-2008 versions of Visual Studios. It is also considered as an add-on software for Visual Studio version 2010. The primary use of the software is to design different data connections graphically and generate a specific report layout. It is equipped with the feature called Database Expert which enables users to select, click, link tables directly for the data source. The data source may come in the form of other applications such as Oracle databases, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server, Business Objects Enterprise, and even other local filing systems. It is capable of supporting both Text files and XML files.
Seagate Crystal Reports is likewise compatible with a set of Groupware applications namely Novell GroupWise, Lotus Notes, and Microsoft Exchange. It also has a GIS functionality and runs well on Windows-based systems.
